What to do in Phuket?
There are many places to visit in Phuket aside from the Beach. As I mentioned on my previous blog, it is not all about beaches, so nothing to worry if you think that you are not a beach person and you still have an interest to visit Phuket. Here are some of the things that you can do in Phuket.
1. Party till you drop!
If you are a party animal, then this is the perfect place for you. The street is in lined with party clubs and anything that you could think of! If you are coming from a country where girls are all covered, you might have a culture shock because of how revealing this street is. Well, I came from an open country but living in Qatar for 5 years makes a difference. :p
But it is seriously fun! Its either you'll stay inside the club or buy a drink in any convenience store and walk around the street or drink it on the beach front. It's all up to you!
2. Visit The Big Buddha
Phuket's Big Buddha is one of the most visited and revered destination on the island. The Big Buddha is 45 meter tall, marble statue which sits on top of Nakkerd Hills. You can actually see the head of the Buddha from Karon Beach which is 14km far (that's how tall and huge it is..).
The Big Buddha's entrance is free of charge. But many people are donating money for the maintenance of the Big Buddha and leave their message on the purchased items like the golden leaf, bricks and marble slabs. They believe it is for good luck and also to leave a message for their love ones who already passed away.
Visitors are not allowed to go inside the premises wearing their beach wear and short skirt since it is considered as a religious site. You can always ask for sarong to cover up (I actually came from Karon beach and it was out of my plan to go here directly so I'm not wearing the proper clothing. However, they allow me to enter using my kimono).
3. Visit the Temples
There are 29 temples around Phuket that you can visit and also you can find numbers of Chinese Shrines in Phuket. Chinese Shrines has great importance to Thailand especially in Phuket due to the Chinese communities who migrated to Thailand centuries ago.
I visited Wat Chalong which is only 8km away from Big Buddha. Wat Chalong is the most visited temple in Phuket. It is dedicated to two highly monks who led the citizens of Chalong.
Visitors are not allowed to wear their shoes inside the temple and same as with the other temples, short skirt and revealing clothes are not allowed.
4. Roam around the Old Phuket Town
One of my favorite spot in Phuket is the Old Phuket Town. It is a historical town in Phuket and it consist of five roads and the main street is the Thalang road. Thalang road reminds me of my tour in Haji Lane in Singapore, the street is full of colorful tenements, amazing graffiti walls and series of cute boutiques.
5. SHOP AND EAT!! :)
So far Thailand has the best food in my opinion! of course other than Filipino Food.. The best dishes can be found only in the streets. While on my way to Old Phuket Town I was searching for a place to eat. Luckily I found one of the best local Thai restaurant in Phuket named Chakang Raw. It is actually very simple from outside but its simplicity makes it more attractive. Their food is very tasty and cheap! Most of their customers are students.. which explains how budget friendly it is.
1. Party till you drop!
Bangla Walking Street during day time, it looks like a simple street on day time but it goes wild and raunchy in the evening! |

The place is very serene. It has a 360 degree breath taking and amazing
view where you can see almost the whole town of Phuket. It is open from 8:00AM - 7:30PM, so if you want to catch the sunset it is recommended to come around 5:30PM.
The Big Buddha's entrance is free of charge. But many people are donating money for the maintenance of the Big Buddha and leave their message on the purchased items like the golden leaf, bricks and marble slabs. This smaller statue is next to the main Big Buddha. It is made of brass. |

Phu Thalang which is a clothing store in Thalang road has drawn my attention because of the captivating colors and designs of the clothes. Everything is handmade and designed by the owner's daughter. The owner said that her daughter loves to draw and doodle on the wall then later on she realized that she can make money out of it so she decided to dye clothes and sell it. The clothing price range is from 200-500baht and the bag price starts from 600 baht.

Thai Milk Tea 20baht |
Chakang Raw Boran with Pork Bones 50baht. This is one of the best soup I tried in Thailand. I swear i'll never forget this dish! I'm drooling right now. |
Night Markets, Restaurants and Street foods are everywhere. Just roam around and patiently search for whatever Thai food you want to eat and its there!!! can you imagine the heart shape in my eyes? for a foodie like me, this place is heaven!!!
Coconut Pancake. 20 baht |
Moo-nam-tok 60baht |
Nutelle Crepe 60 baht. |
You can visit all these places in just one day. If you know how to drive a motorcycle, it is easier and cheaper for you. You can rent a scooter for only 200 baht that you can use for the whole day. It is really an amazing experience for me to stroll around the city riding a motorcycle. Overall experience is exceptional! I would love to do it again..
