First time solo traveller girl

Recently, I have shared my first solo travel blog, Taipei. If you were following my blog posts it was not my intention to travel alone during those times, but that unfortunate incident led me to more desirable experiences - and I also discovered a lot about myself.

These are things that I realized, travelwise, during my short journey…

1. You have to help yourself with all your luggages. You don't have a boyfie or bff who can take your luggages whenever you feel tired. You have to carry all of them whenever trolleys or carts are not allowed in a certain place inside the airport. Placing your hand carry luggages in the plane's compartment is also a challenge. You are just lucky if there's one stranger who will lend a hand for you. 🙂

2. The amount of food you eat is very limited. I think most of us will agree that eating alone is no fun! Unlike when you are traveling with friends or with someone, you tend to eat more than the usual when you are out of the country. One of the most important things when you travel is to try all the local food that you could try, and you can buy one food then everyone can share. When you are alone, as much as you want to try all the food in the market, you don't want to waste any of it when it doesn't suit your taste. You don't want to waste your money, even!

3. Google Maps will be your new best friend. Even by just walking and finding your hotel from the main train station or the main road, google map will never fail you. Just make sure to keep your power bank with you all the time.

4. No wake up call. You don't have any itinerary to follow since you own your time. You don't have to think of anyone who are waiting for you to get up, dress up and finish your make up. You don't have to think that you’re wasting someone else's time.

5. You are your own photographer. Take out your selfie stick and get your tripod ready! Since you know your best angle better than strangers, you should learn how to ignore people who are passing by and staring at you while you take your own pictures. Keep in mind that you are a foreigner in that country and it wouldn't be a big issue to take a picture with the very least important corner in their place. 😉

6. Your time is not wasted for other people’s selfies. Your goal will always be point and shoot! No more wasted time for your friends to finish their Instagram-worthy poses or their other dramas for their pictures. Whatever you think is worth clicking, just take a snap and proceed to the next destination! 🙂

7. You discover more underrated places. When traveling alone, you are deciding on your own. You don't need to ask for others input or suggestion. When you are bored in one place, you can just switch to another place in just a snap! You tend to go to places that just simply attracts you and does not require confirmation from the internet if it is worth visiting.

8. You are more open in meeting other people. You are not hesitant to make friends with other travelers especially those who are also traveling solo. Unlike when you are with your own group, you are not that much open to mingle with others and get to know more other travelers. Plus, you are a cheap traveler so you are booking a bed bunk in a maximum of 4pax-per-room in a hostel!

9. You'll never know what you are capable of doing. It feels like you’re meeting yourself for the first time. You get to know more about yourself and appreciate the small things that you couldn't imagine doing.

10. You are more courageous than expected. You are not afraid to try new things and take risks. You never expected that you can travel by bus or train alone in a place where you are a complete stranger. You were surprised to know that you can walk alone either on a busy street or in the dark empty aisle.

To sum everything up, you have to come out of your comfort zone, learn how to be independent and find the fun on being alone. You don't always need someone to rely on! You can do things without getting courage from other people. Don't be afraid to look stupid in front of other people and what is important is, you! 🙂
